Which policy you want

The app collects nothing. No account, no server, no analytics — everything you write stays on your phone. That is covered by the Arete app privacy policy.

This page is about the website, which does collect a little: an email address if you join a list, and an order if you buy something. The two never mix. Nothing you enter here is sent to the app, and nothing from inside the app is ever sent here.

This policy explains what [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“Arete,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use this website or buy something from it, and what we do with it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

1. The short version

We collect an email address only when you hand us one, and we use it for the thing you handed it over for.
If you buy something, we hold the order: what you bought, where it goes, and how to reach you about it.
We never see your card number. Payments are handled by Stripe.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
No advertising trackers run on this site.

2. Information you give us

Email address — when you join the app waitlist, the book pre-order list, or the ring notification list. We record which list, and when.
Order information — when you buy a physical product: your name, shipping address, email, the items ordered, and the order total. Your payment card details go directly to Stripe and are never received or stored by us.
Support correspondence — anything you write to us at hello@arete-app.org, and our replies.

3. Information collected automatically

Server logs — our host records IP address, browser and device type, referring page and time of request, as web servers do. These are used for security and troubleshooting and are retained for [RETENTION PERIOD, e.g. 30 days].
Analytics — [NAME YOUR ANALYTICS PROVIDER, or state that you use none. If it sets cookies or builds profiles, say so here and in section 6.]

4. How we use it

To send you the one email you asked for, and later product announcements if you stayed subscribed. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
To take, fulfil and support your order, including shipping and returns.
To operate and secure the site, and to fix what breaks.
To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles.

5. Who we share it with

Only service providers who need it to do their job for us, under contract, and only for that purpose:

Stripe — payment processing. Stripe is the controller of your payment data; see stripe.com/privacy.
[EMAIL PROVIDER] — storing the list and sending the emails you subscribed to.
[HOSTING PROVIDER] — serving this website.
[FULFILMENT / SHIPPING PARTNER] — picking, packing and shipping physical orders.

We will also disclose information if we are legally required to, or to protect our rights or someone's safety. If the business is sold or merged, information may transfer as part of that transaction; you will be told before it does.

6. Cookies

This site sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. It uses:

Local storage to remember what is in your cart between pages. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us except as part of a checkout you start yourself.
Stripe cookies, set during checkout, for fraud prevention.

You can clear or block storage in your browser settings; the cart is the only part of the site that will stop working.

7. How long we keep it

List addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Order records are kept for [e.g. seven years] to satisfy tax and accounting rules. Support email is kept for [e.g. two years]. Server logs are kept as stated in section 3.

8. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Write to privacy@arete-app.org and we will respond within [e.g. 45 days].

California residents

Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and we do not use sensitive personal information for inferring characteristics. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You may use an authorised agent to make a request.

Other state privacy laws

Residents of [Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana — confirm the list that applies to your sales footprint] have comparable rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and appeal. Requests go to the same address.

9. Children

This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, write to privacy@arete-app.org and we will delete it.

10. Security

Traffic to this site is encrypted in transit. Payment data never touches our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise; if a breach affects you we will notify you as the law requires.

11. Where your information is processed

We operate from [COUNTRY] and use service providers in the United States and [OTHER REGIONS]. If you write to us from outside those places, your information will be processed there.

12. Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, for anyone on our list, say so by email.
